How do I know if my iPhone has had a Screen Replacement?
Thinking of trading in or recycling your iPhone? It’s important to note that most recycling companies will reduce the value of your handset if the phone has had a poor replacement screen fit by a third-party company and there is a screen warning message visible.
How do I know if my iPhone has had a screen replacement?
If you have an iPhone 11 or later (except the iPhone SE 2nd generation and iPhone SE 3rd generation) then you can check by:
- Go to Settings – Select General – then tap About
If your mobile phone has had a replacement screen fit by anyone other than Apple there will be a section that shows ‘Important Display Information. Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple display’.

If you have an older iPhone such as the iPhone XR or iPhone XS, there isn’t a definitive way to tell for sure, but there are several signs you can look out for that may indicate a replacement screen.
- True Tone: This is where the display colour is adjusted based on ambient light and can be found on the Apple iPhone 8 and later models and is sometimes missing from the settings when a screen has been replaced.
- Colour Accuracy: Some aftermarket screens do not have bright and vivid displays and their colours are faded and lacking depth and clarity.
- Touchscreen responsiveness: If the touchscreen appears to be less responsive or have areas that take numerous taps to operate, then this could indicate a screen replacement has been carried out.
Can I trade in my iPhone if the screen has been replaced?
Absolutely. Here are WeBuyTek you can recycle your iPhone with us if it has had a replacement screen fit. However, to get the best price you must select the correct condition based on the quality of the screen. For example, an iPhone 11 would need to be classed as ‘faulty’ given the important display message which would be visible, and this does unfortunately reduce the resale value significantly. Whereas an iPhone 8 with a good quality screen fit would normally be classed as ‘Poor’ condition.
What happens if I select the ‘Good’ condition and the screen has been replaced?
If you book your device in under the ‘Good’ condition, once we have received your handset, we will test the phone, and revalue accordingly. If the screen is of good quality with no issues, no display message and all features function as it should, then there would be no revised offer sent, and the price honoured (subject to all other elements of the device working correctly).
If your mobile phone does need to be revalued, you will be notified of the revised offer through an email and also text message containing the new price and also the reason for the revised offer.
